Thanks for the advice, everyone.

I'm taking it to an independant mechanic in about 2 hours to get a full compression/leakdown test on it.

If it's down on compression, and I take it to a certified honda tech to get it fixed, do I have legal grounds to force the original dealer to pay for the work? It seems a lot of legal protection is offered on new cars, but the link posted ealier is more vague on a used car purchase.

Look at your paper work i mean it seems they tried to sell you a car that they said everything was fine, a problem arose and the guy you mentioned there acknowledged that oh it had a problem that he didn't bother mentioning to you and thats why he is trying to cover his ass by doing the work himself. I will ask my wife when i get home she is a lawyer and see what advice she would have to offer.

Thanks again, everyone.

For anyone following the thread, here are the results of the compression test:

Cylinders 1/2/3/4:
220/168/130/220.

So 1 and 4 seem solid, but 2 and 3 are leaking compression. Valves or head gasket, possibly? I'm afraid the dealer wil try to weasel otu of this, or will try to fix it on the cheap himself - do I have any legal right to demand a honda tech do the repairs and they reimburse me?

Ugh.

Yup. Worst case, they still haven't gotten my paycheck stubs to finalize financing, so i'll just withhold that until financing falls through and they're forced to take the car back.

Sigh. Real shame though, as the 06 was *beautiful*.
