04 transmission

gears 1-4 same, 5 and 6 longer, but secondary gear reduction at back of transmission is shorter

hence u get a net shorter 1-4 gears to the rear end, but still get longer 5 and 6 for cruising

the longer 5 and 6 will not be ideal for the track

u r better off reducing your final drive or getting a J's or OEM 04 secondary gear reduction to maintain a closer gear set for the track

sorry

Hecash, How many miles are on your tranny? It should not be grinding first...I have about 6-7 04 customers including Venom's new tranny and they don't have the grind issue...Maybe fluid? I have syncromesh in my 03 and like it, but will prolly run Honda MTF with the new unit...

You're almost correct....6th gear is the only gear to come out taller than the rest in comparison to the 03....the 1.208 gear reduction has to be figured in to all gears, then you get the final ratio of the tranny....it's a royal pain to describe but if it comes down to it I can post it.

4% shorter ratios for 1st through 4th gears while the 5th ratio is effectively 1% shorter and 6th is effectively 2% longer, for a slightly more relaxed cruise speed. 5th gear ratio changed from 0.971 to 0.942. 6th gear ratio changed from 0.811 to 0.763.
I did the formulas to determine this, but this backs my math (whew) that 6th gear is taller, 1-5 are shorter...Thanks man
