Default My Softop Latch broke. =[

Just yesterday I tried to put down my soft top and my passenger side latch broke when I tried to press the button to release.

Here are some pics.

Those 2 pieces are what came off. I don't know how to put it back or if I need to replace it. =[ any help is appreciated.

I think I am missing those 2 screws. The latch is in the lock position is there any way I can unlatch it?

The two screws at the bottom of this pic fell out. Temporarily, you can take one screw from the other side, just to get the top to close if you need to drive the car. Or take one of the screws to Lowes/Home Depot and get another screw with the same threads, diameter and approximate length. The generic screw will be a little different, but not that big of a deal.

OK but the latch is still in LOCK position. How can I get the latch to unhook so I can screw the 2 screws on the passenger side.

Look at the mechanism on the good latch. You'll have to figure out what to push and how to push to get the latch open. You may be able to stuff the fallen pieces back in the right place to let you actuate the latch. But you may have to be creative in finding a way to get it open.

Mine poped off just like that when I bought my car. It isnt broken, you just have to replace the 2 screws...

I had a hell of a time finding the correct screw to replace them. It was ahrd to find the correct length and thread. I found 2 screws amongst my PC tower. There are different screws in a PC tower, but one of the common configuration of screws was a perfect match. So look raid your computer.

Good luck.

If you cant see inside the latch well enough to find a way to unlatch it, you could remove the striker and perhaps it will aid you. If the you open the roof part way... you might be able to see in the latch at better angles with the striker removed.

here is a link to showing how to remove the striker

If you want to upgrade to HT strikers, it would be a good time to do it.

I don't believe you can order the screws from Honda...they come with the latch. New latches are expensive.

^^^^ agreed...cost you $150 give or take of the latch. As negchamber said, in his statements above. This happenned to me, and I retightened the screws and no more problems.
