Default My overheating problem

Hey guys any help would be greatly appreciated!!

So this has been happening a couple of times already usually during maybe 30-45 mins in stop and go traffic. i notice my temp gauge start to raise from half slowly to max high. the i turn on the heater but it barely gets hot enough so the temp keeps rising. keep in mind, the heater still works as of today but it does not work in these situations while my temps are rising. could it be my thermostat? under normal driving, this isnt even an issue. temps stay at normal, heater blasts hot. I dont understand why is it just stop and go traffic. I have searched for similiar circumstances on the forum but i have not found one yet. anyone have any ideas?
