My Oil Analysis

Castrol seems to work well in the F series engine. I use it myself, change at 7.5k mi, and Blackstone tells me I can go longer, like 10k mi. I usually hit the 12 month mark before mileage though.

looks like it is working well. Seeing iron wear drop after switching from Castrol 0w30 is something I seen on my car too, I think these engines work a bit better with thinner 30 weights as compared to thicker 30 weights or 40 weights. I think iron wear is affected by visosity.

Is Castrol Edge thicker than Mobil1 at 10w30? I have to say my oil consumption has gone down a bit after I switched over.

Castrol Edge 10w30 is thicker than Mobil1 in a 10w30 visc. by a small bit. Castrol 0w30 is a very thick 30 weight, bordering on a 40 weight oil. From what I've seen thicker oils don't protect any better in these motors, I initially though they would but I didn't see any benefit to running 5w40 and Castrol 0w30 over thinner oils.

I think viscosity has very little to do with it Joey. The Edge FST with Ti is a much more advanced formula than the decade old Syntec 0W-30 formula. If Castrol R&D wanted to go back and update the GC additive package, they could make it competitive again using the same viscosity base oils.
