hey everyone, so i bought an s2k off someone on this site a couple months ago. It pretty much sat for a while because i was waiting for my rims to come in and some other goodies. I drove it on occasion just around the block to get it running. So i finally got my rims and decide to finally have fun with my new baby. SO i call up my buddy with his s2k and we go cruisng. by the way since i bought the car i only put 200 miles on it total in 2 months. So i take a turn and gun it and suddnly the car sounds like it has marbles jumping around in the engine. I pull over right away and my friend tell me there was a ton of smoke as soon as i gunned it. I checked and the car had NO OIL. i poured in 4.5 quarts (thank god for the local mobile gas station which stocked plenty of oil) and started her up.. she ran but above 2k rpm the marble rattling sound was still there just not as loud. I got her home and she has been sitting ever since. My question to you guys is first off what do you think might have happened? also from what i hear i need to get a new motor.. or get this one rebuilt... but i want to hear from you guys first and if that is the case let me know my options. i searched a bit but just found some horrifc things so ill just ask myself.

i don't know for sore but it sounds like it could be a broken valve which is rattleing around, or a busted rockerarm, but i would figure it out before deciding on a new engine.

x2. i doubt a valve dropped with low oil given that he didnt overrev the car. more that likely he spun a bearing.

I'd go find the guy you bought it from: 200 miles and this problem? Although no oil, did you know there was no oil in it? It could be any internal part that is loose/broken. Good luck.

The first thing I do with any car I buy is change all the fluids so I know they are correct. Even a good motor will not last long with on oil.

You added 4.5 quarts of oil to a car that holds 5.5 quarts? This could be expensive...

Good luck man. Running the car on 1 quart of oil tells me you will need a new block very soon. The most important lifeline to any engine is engine oil. The first thing you do when you test drive an S2000 is check the oil after the test drive. End of story.

Compression/Leakdown will tell you how much damage is done, but I am 99% sure you will need a new block. This engine is very sensitive to oil levels.

Let me add the cheapest route for this is to get a used block. You didn't mention your MY but since oil consumption is involved F20C is my guess. A new block is $2000 which is relatively good price. If you do all the work you can make it work from $1000-3000 depending on the condition of the block, assuming you head is healthy which it should be. The dealer will charge around $8000-10000 for the whole job.
