We need to define your understanding of "grab" and "fluid is ok and stuff".
Where exactly does your clutch begin to engage and transfer power as you lift off the floor ("friction point")? My car's friction point is about 2" - 3" off the floor and the clutch is fully engaged and will have free play at the top inch or two.
How have you determined that the fluid is OK? With 40K KMs on it, has the fluid ever been changed?
If the fluid is indeed "OK" and the friction point is indeed "right at the top", this would be an indication of a possible worn clutch or one that is in need of pedal adjustment.

it's obvious that his fluid is OK.

I'd like to hear it from him. For some people, seeing the fluid in the reservoir at the "proper" level means it's "OK". They do not take into consideration the color of the fluid, or the possibility that there could air pockets in the system.
You must be more intuitive than I because it's not "obvious" to me given the information posted.

Some people just have a better grasp of the vocabulary, Xviper.

I used to work for a Lincoln/Mercury dealership. For a while, we had a female service manager. We lost a few male customers when she moved into service from being a parts manager but we gained "many" more female customers.

It was totally hilarious to listen to some of the female customers come in and complain (literally) about the thing-a-ma-jig making this clackity-clack sound under the dashboard. Joyce (the service manager) would simply smile and reassure the customer that it would be no problem to fix and then make the proper translations to the mechanic. As often as not, we'd have a female customer smiling ear to ear when they drove off in their newly "fixed" car. It was really something to see.

Drive Safe,
Steve R.
