Well we had it hooked up to the battery charger overnite and tried starting it this morning and nothing. My husband doesn't think it is the battery.

a totally shot battery won't hold any charge whether charged or jumped if I'm not mistaken, so it'd be the first place I'd start. Around here, pep boys etc will test them for free, so it'd be worth the trip.

I agree with the advice given, furthermore, I doubt it is the alternator. If the alternator is the culprit (meaning the battery is ok) the car would start and run off of the battery until it died again... and it definitely would not have push started\made it home.
