when I mis-shifted my old integra it sounded like the chitty-chitty bang-bang car lol. One of the adjustment nuts was 3 turns OFF the rocker. Fixed that and she was cherry, even ran 10psi through it years later never hurt it
i would do a compression and leakdown test if i were you.

Listened to it...definitely the TCT. Can buy one for under $150 and install yourself in 15min if you are mildly competent (ie, you screw in your own light bulbs). You need a 10mm socket and needle nose plyers.

It sounds like my car at the moment, although i replaced my timing chain tensioner 6,000kms ago and the stupid noise has come back again

nothing on the s2k seems to be very durable

What about access to the maintenance hole. Large allen key, no?

TCT and something with the valves was my guess, but to just wake up and have it like this seems like some event trigged it like an overrev.

It's also important to remember as your S2000 gets into higher mileage, it will develop more and more valvetrain noise. It's just normal, and won't go away with a valve adjustment. Now I'm not saying that's your problem because it's clearly not.

my vote is for loose valves.
