Default My car slides into 2nd with out clutch engagement

My second gear is shot pretty much. I want to know what will be cheaper to replace the 2nd gear synchro and 4th gear synchro(it grinds) or trans completely?

I've been driving the car skipping gears because I dont have 1500 bucks for a trans until next week.

I have heard more people have issues with rebuilt s2k transmissions than not. It's not quite as simple as just 'replacing the syncro' either.

Regardless, I'd suggest looking for a used transmission. I've seen a few posts about some reliable sources for vey reasonable prices, under 2k for AP1's and not much higher for AP2's. Perhaps it is a good time to upgrade if you have an AP1 transmission.

you've been here 1 day and you say "prob one of the hardest driven S2000 on this forum" ? that's a bit off the wall don't you think? Do you track your car? Do you race it at the drag strip?

as for your problem, i suggest you find a used tranny. most don't know how to do a good rebuild of the tranny, and it can cost you just as much in parts to do as to find a used one and swap that in.

AP2 tranny in an AP1. Would this simulate close to a 4.57 ratio in the rear?

It's a simple ratio thought but I just can't seem to think this out clearly. Maybe it's too early in the AM.. Do you multiply the FD ratio with diff or add? I can't remember.

I need to do some synchros next year and I'm thinking of just finding a used AP2 instead if I can benefit from the different ratio.

Never mind... I found the calculator.

It's not much of a difference. If I did this correctly an AP2 trans in AP1 would be like changing to a 4.12 Axle ratio LOL....

I thought it was higher as well. Unless the calculator is wrong?

http://www.turnzero.com/technical_resource...gear_calculator

Change the 04 FD to 1.16

Unless I'm doing something wrong it's the same as changing the 00-03 AR to 4.12
