I thought it was only early AP1s that had the high oil consumption rate. On my AP2, I regularly go 5k miles with a couple track days without any

I thought it was only early AP1s that had the high oil consumption rate. On my AP2, I regularly go 5k miles with a couple track days without needing to add make-up oil. I've got 75k and use Mobil 1, though I don't thrash it when off the track.

Hope it's something simple and not a scored cylinder...

The car will run with 2 quarts in it. Your mechanic is an idiot. You asked her about your oil and she said "it's black?" All oil is black after a change. Thats not the point. What you wanted her to tell you is whether it was liquid or "diarrhea like" (with chunks aka sludge) and how much came out. If more than 2 quarts, something else it at fault....unless you had only 2 quarts, took a sharp turn, and starved your motor for a brief second.

Going 3000 miles over the due date isn't the cause. You need to know how much oil was bled out during the oil change.

ALL AP1 can have oil consumption issues.

I thought AP2 didn't use oil, till my last customer had 2.5 quarts left. I changed it myself lst time around and put 6 quarts in it. He's got 164k miles on an 05. He burned off 3.5 quarts in 4k miles.

that makes me think that oil consumption is due more to the engine being in vacuum than vtec.

That's alot!!

he may have a bad piston ring or valve. That surely at to the oil consumption.
