I don't know the particulars, but I read somewhere that the ECU does some things after shutdown that takes some time to complete and disconnecting the power can damage (fry?) the ECU.

Like I said, I don't know the particulars, but I thought it was 20 minutes and I thought it was for '06 or later, but I could be wrong.

YES! read the manual. The ECU is doing some checking during that 15 minutes and you can (so I hear) break the ECU if it loses power during that check.

I have read the manual, I don't recall reading anything about 15 to 20 mins. I have an AP1, is this only an AP2 MY '06 and higher? Because, when I was switching out batteries, I turned off the car and started to disconnect the dying battery. I don't think 15 mins elapsed, but I don't see any ill effects so far, if anything, it seems like the battery swapout reset the ECU and the car has a little more kick than before. Can someone confirm, it is only for model years '06 and higher and the AP1's are not affected?

Frist thanks for all the helpful info.

I got some info to add. Last night on the way home i was topdown and when i hit the highway i wanted to do try to do a "topspeed run" I started off real good til i hit about 118 120. When i shift to 6th its like i lost all power i would gain 2mph for like every 1 sec. Im not sure if this mean anything. it was good til 6th also if might be the drag cause it was windy and i could feel the wind pushing on the car.

Also i passed a turbo civic and we ran it. at the start i pulled like 3-4 cars on him til i hit 6th. then he got 1/2 car in front of me.

Im gonna try reseting the ECU what the best way to do it by pulling the appropriate fuse or disconnecting the battery?

Check my airbox

and do a Compression, Leakdown Test but i need to find a shop to do it for me because i ask honda if they can take a look they said they don't see the point and don't want to it.

I would never go that fast on the road, but I have an 07 that I"ve taken to the track... at 120+ in 5th the car is inching faster like 1mph/sec at best, I never bothered trying 6th cuz I would run out of the strait, but I was topping out @ 125 or close to that... yes, the stock s2k loses acceleration as you get into the 110+ range, its just due to the wind resistance and the fact that robs your power as your speed increases.

neoarroyo : I think the 15minute rule is 06+ only, but I"m sure I saw it in my manual.

Was your top down when you were going that fast? If so, there could've been some major wind turbulence. My assumption is, you'll get much better performance with the top up at those speeds.
