Is this connected to the use of the A/C?
YOu can get mold in your HVAC system. This can be treated with mild cases by runing ac/max heat to try and burn it off.
In my case on another car there was a anti mildew 'bomb' you let explode in the car, sort of like a stink bomb while running the HVAC system. I also got some anti mildew carpet cleaner.

When I got my car at 21k miles, it rained the next week and there was a leak in the passenger footwell from the cabin air filter location. The dealer mechanic took off the black trim between the hood and windshield and the factory had forgotten to put glue between two panels. the HVAC system still had water in it, so I just burned it off with the heater.

Look at the rubber grommet on the passenger side where the cabin harness runs into the engine bay.
Mine came loose and let in water everytime it rained or I washed it.

I had the same issue and after 2 weeks finally figured out it was that grommet.

If you got moldy smell, put the air on recirculate, figure out where it gets sucked in, and set an open dish with chlorine under it. The chlorine vapors will circulate through the system, killing the mold. Healthy air, here I come.
Just don't spill the chlorine. It'll kill the color in the carpet on the spot.
