Heat gun wouldn't work well because you need the heat in such a large area.
This was my first time ever cooking headlights and it wasn't that bad at all. In fact the headlights look good in my oven

I'm going to do this, but i'm thinking of taking it a step further. SO i have a question for u or anyone whose changed out their diffusers...
About how much spacing is between the middle ridge on the chrome reflector piece in the corner light and the diffuser itself?

a heat gun works great. Ive done 5 or 6 different headlights with mine. Just keep it moving until the whole thing is nice and warm and pull that cover off slowly.

BTW, our headlamps can safely be baked at 225 
.A heat gun, while it has been used by some folks, creates concentrated direct heat to whatever part of the plastic you are pointing it at... That said, the other areas along the seam are not receiving even heat. Point the gun to a new position along the seam...and while you are heating that part up...another part already heated is now cooling. Certainly 'do-able'...but perhaps not the best way to go. "Easy Bake" comes to mind as the best way to go...baking the headlamps in the oven provides even heat on all the plastics
