Mugen ECU is for racing use. Mugen ECU requires 70mm exhaust in a certain length to make the most power out from your engine (you can find the details which comes with the ECU). I have notice that the engine "PINGs" during load throttle at low rpm ranges so pump gas doesn't meet the requirements for Mugen MAP but you will have no problem with RACE gas ofcuz.
IMO, Mugen header and exhaust are aimed for low-mid range power.
Spoon's ECU lowered the VTEC point to have smoother VTEC transaction. You can 91-93 octance fuel with no "ping" problem because the map runs richer.

My car is totally stock,
Im planning to instal a Mugen ECU, or a Spoon ECU.
My S2000 is a 2001 Model White JDM. I'm always adding Nos fuel additive to compensate for our fuel, which is 91ron.
From your point of view, I think its best to install a Spoon Ecu.
Which is not as aggrassive as the Mugen.
Regarding the thermostat, switch and Rad cap, do I also have to replace these, as they recommend to do when installing a Mugen N1 Ecu?
Thanks

if you have mugen I/H/E then get the mugen ecu
if you have spoon I/H/E then get the mugen ecu
if you have j's racing I/H/E then get the j's racing ecu
if you have random I/H/E parts... then get AEM EMS

If your car is stock, I will suggest you do the basics like I/H/E first because by putting in the ECU alone, you will not get the best results.
Cooling mods ? I think it is better to have no matter what brand because it will make a difference anyways. Different brands will not affect the settings of the aftermarket ECU.

I have done a comparision between Mugen ECU and J's ECU. Mugen ECU makes about 4whp over J's but J's adjusted the VTEC to kick in earlier and that part at the mid-range gained 14whp over Mugen.
