Secret AP1, you're applying conventional wisdom to an unconventional problem. The fact is that the stock ECU runs WAY more rich than it needs to. Leaning out anywhere from 2-10% after 4 or 5000 RPMs on a stock vehicle yields more power and acceptable a/f ratio.
Check the VAFC thread- leaning out as much as 10% at 9000 RPMs helps power and won't be dangerous.

I will admit Secret that some mods have proven most beneficial. My previous setup was the Following:
DC Header
HKS exhaust
AEM PEMS
Toda Cams
RM Intake
I made 237 to the rear wheels on this setup with 156 lb/ft. of torque
My current setup is:
Spoon Header
Spoon N1
Apex Vafc
Toda Cams
Stock box w/ Comptech Filter
I have not dyno'ed this setup yet, but my car now chirps 3rd gear and it's never been able to do that. The engine runs quite strong now. This setup is the best overall setup I've run yet and the car is completely driveable. Anyways, I've tried many different parts on my car and most of them arent worth the price.

I didnt know the Spoon ECU wouldnt work the A/C. Dang
I'm running the spoon ECU. The A/C works fine. The Check Engine light remains on with a P1412 error, which I think is a JDM code. I haven't dynoed yet, but I will do an accelerometer "dyno" when the weather cools down.
There is a noticeable difference in low down torque. No stalling problems when you blip the throttle. It transformed the car - it will pull smoothly from 2000 rpm in 6th. I never used 6th gear except on cruising on an interstate, now use higher gears up hills i.e. 5th and 6th. There's no need to shift down anymore. More overall power, not that much, though,but the car was noticeably quieter. More ignition advance, less power wasted thru the exhaust?
