Yep. I use a 3lb dead-blow rubber mallet from harbor freight on almost every bolt I break loose. It's very rare that two or three hits don't break a bolt loose, and maybe 1 in 200 bolts rounds its head off. Best $3 you'll spend.

Thats what I'm saying. A quick (well placed, well thought out) kick is better than a gradual pull on a extension. Of course you can easily strip it by doing that as well, if you dont seat the wrench/rachet properly.

I have had this same problem with the same bolt. Working on the ground makes things like this so very hard to do. Here's some tips:

Be careful with wd-40 as it tends increase the likelihood of rounding the bolt off.

PB Blaster is ten times more effective without damaging things.

Flare nut wrenches will also keep you from rounding off the bolt. Buy both of these, because they are useful in many situations.

Personally, I would PB Blaster it, use the flare nut wrench and deadblow hammer method. If that didn't work I would go with the two wrench method. Hand tools FTW!

And as a precaution in the future; make sure you can get off the fill bolt before you drain the transmission.

No need for a flare nut wrench when a closed end box end 17mm wrench fits the fill bolt fine.

Heres a tip= Absoluty use a hose and funnel for the refill. I liked the 1/2'' sizing because the fill opening is this exact same size. Empty two full liter bottles into the funnel, remove the hose from the trans and allow the excess to drain. this is quick and easy and let me add clean. Please don't bug me about the 300 mls wasted using this procedure,it's a very simple sacrafice to save time and also to ensure a complete fill.

These seem way overtightened from the factory. Just like the rear diff bolt. The washed was discernibly deformed. I had one year on it with no salt.

I wrapped a t-shirt around a regular hammer and whacked my wrench a few times to get mine off. Had to do that on one of the diff bolts, too. I was greatly relieved that it worked since I was getting ready to cuss up a storm.
