MPG Not Much Better Than A V8 Mustang?

I agree with the notion for a 7th gear. VTEC in 6th engages at 180kmh, so cruising at 200kmh results in piss-poor fuel economy (well under 20mpg).
Driving around in speed-limited countries helps the consumption quite a bit of course. Cruising at 120kmh at 4000rpm nets 30mpg or more.
Drag and acceleration is nevertheless still atrocious past about 230kmh (around 75000rpm) and the wind noise kills any chance of listening to the radio or talking! I suppose the hardtop might help out at these speeds. Can anybody comment about the hardtop in this case?

I would flip over backwards for a seventh gear. It is exactly what a short geared car like ours needs. This would even allow the lower gears to be a bit tighter for performance. Maybe we'll see one in the next generation... who knows... they are some european automakers looking at 7 speed gearboxes for their future cars....
