Default Is Motul ok? (Gear and LSD oil)

-> I have a friend who has a stock AP2 S2k (doesn't have time to go to S2Ki). And he just sold his WRX, and he has a stockpile of Motul Gear 300 tranny oil and a Motul 90 PA Differential LSD oil.

Motul Gear 300 (tranny oil)

Motul 90 PA LSD oil

-> He's asking if it is ok to use these oils/fluids? If not, he has an option to to sell it on a local forum.

-> Thanks for the help guys!

the 300 tranny oil is too thick for the S2000. regarding the 90 PA, as long as it meets GL5 or better than it should be okay for the rear diff.

90PA is an SAE 90 gear oil that meets GL-5 Specs. I use it (in the diff), and it has worked fine so far.

For tranny, you probably just want to go for Honda MTF-2. Seems to be most popular.

^ So, he should sell his Gear 300 and keep his 90PA then?

Amsoil for the tranny is good as well. I actually like it better than the Honda MTF-2. Thats an option as well.

If he lives in a hot climate, I'd say it isn't too thick.

The only thing thick gear oil will do is maybe make shifts smoother..........like using redline heavy shockproof.

It's not going to hurt the trans at all.

"Thickness" isn't the issue. If it's GL-5, it doesn't belong in your trans.

Use GL-4 in your trans, and GL-5 in your diff.

I'm not sure whether that's GL4 or GL5 but I will say that I've not owned a car in the last 10 years that could use GL5 fluid due to having brass synchros.....and I've not come across many performance MTL's that are GL5 rated.

So, if it's GL4, go for it. GL5? heck no!
