Dude, I know. And I just told you. BMW and Castrol (both German companies) have been partnered for years. Castrol makes all the BMW-branded oil that BMW dealers use and sell.

Check this:

(Royal Purple it is then!)
interesting, but Royal Purple typically performs pretty lousy in real world UOA

specific "one off" experiments or manufacturer "pet oils" don't tell the whole story, you have to look at many different UOA results for many different vehicles in different applications, and to slipstream's credit, Amsoil 10w-30 (and even the lower viscosity grades) has consistently performed near the top, or at the top, in a wide range of UAOs that I've reviewed on BITOG

I still maintain that Mobil 1 10w-30 EP is a very good oil

No im not changing from what i already based on this article. I already use valvoline. If i was a trusted M1 user and never had problems i wouldnt be jumping to change it tomorrow based on this report. I would wait to see what comes of it, and if in turn there was more proof that it was in fact 100% true, then i would look to change. Im just saying that for Valvoline to call them out on this, they must have some good evidence to avoid any lawsuit for hurting any reputation.

I was not real happy with my M1 UOAs and the wear they were showing. I've switched to Amsoil.

I'm a Mobile 1 user. So far no problems. But I was going to try Amsoil next, same reason as zx-10. Since my S in not a daily I don't mind paying the extra bucks for it, if its as good as they say it is.

Haven't got enough miles on to pull a UOA yet, plus the car is in storage. After another 7k in the spring I'll get a UOA and post up for comparison to the M1.
