Default Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil Difference

So my local parts store carries 2 Mobil 1 type oils

Super Syn http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorO...l_1_10W-30.aspx
and
Extended Performance http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorO...nce_10W-30.aspx

Extended performance is 20% more expensive. is it really worth it?
Anyone have any oil analysis comparisions of the two?

I use Amsoil 10W30 which is the same price as the Ext Performance Mobil 1

More additives in the EP to extend life.

Check bobistheoilguy.com for specifics.

It really depends on what you want from a drain interval. In my personal experience on other vehicles, the SS holds out till about 6K.

I'd go with 5K on the S, and if I wanted more than that I'd probably give Amsoil a look.

If I recall, early UOAs on EP were in the 7K range (I think), which didn't justify the cost to me.

Strangest thing: most trust & follow Honda when they recommend an oil viscosity and quality spec.

But when it comes to drain interval they follow their own reasoning.
"ohh yeah I HAVE to use the SEVERE maintenace scheme, because... ??"

Even if Mobil states its ok to use it for 15000 miles:
"I dump my oil after 3750 miles just because I always do...."

Just an observation.
Not in particular about people posting in this topic.

i'm going for regular mobil 1, a honda pcx filter, and the 7,500 regular interval. done.

Too true. Anyone who does DIY changes has no excuse not to send a sample or two in for oil analysis.

It's easy, and really lets you know how long you can keep it in your specific engine. Saves $ and resources.

for me i would just feel paranoid leaving it in there for that long. there's always the "what if" thing. im sure that the manufactuers have tested extensively but i still feel bad about leaving it in there.

My intent is not to leave the oil in for that long of a mileage interval.
Even the Amsoil I use claims long drain intervals. I change my oil once a year but only put 6000miles annually.

Cust curious to know if the added cost on Mobil EP over SS is justified, and is EP as good or better then the Amsoil ATM? Im guessing no...

The Amsoil probably would be better. In your case, if you make a change, you may actually want to go M1EP instead of SS.

I'd want the extra additives to fight the effects of the oil killers that will end up in your engine over a year's time interval.

Why are you looking at other oils?

You should stick with OEM Honda oil....
