Mobil 1 is typically formulated a bit thinner than other oils in the same viscosity range ... and being a true Group IV PAO synthetic (last I heard) it will have an even lower viscosity at lower temps. All of this could allow a slightly higher idle speed at start-up.

But it's likely the increasingly colder temps.

Still won't raise the idle. The ECU targets a specific rpm and will add and subtract fuel to hit it.

SgtB, I (and the original poster) were thinking it was the other side of the coin ... a thicker oil, or one with poorer cold-flow properties, would be a heavier drag on the motor and prevent the engine from reaching its target idle speed.

dude just dont worry. I promise its normal, thats exactly where mine has idled all year, no matter the temp. It goes away after the car starts warming up, what some stupid replies. IF it didnt idle that high before, my guess is that it did, but if it didnt then somebody probably had oil that would had to have been WAYYYY too thick to affect idle speed.

Oil has nothing to do with cold start rpm. S2k's idle at 2k when cold, end of discussion.

If your engine doesn't reach 2k rpm because of oil.... you have a serious problem.

OK guys, I guess it's leftover thinking from the days when vacuum ran everything and idle speed could be affected by something like weight, etc ... of oil.
