Default Mobil 1 75/90W "LS" Gear Oil

So I went to Pep Boys to pick up a quart of diff fluid and they only had Mobil 1 75-90W "LS" gear fluid. I'm not sure exactly what the LS means but I read the back and it is GL-5 compatible and meets the 90W requirement that Honda wants. Is there anything I should be worried about with the "LS" symbol?

Here is the data sheet from Mobils website:

TIA

The 75-90W "LS" gear fluid contains a friction modifier that is useless with our Torsen LSDs. I've read a few posts that say that the LS wont hurt anything and a few that said to steer clear of the stuff.

I was able to find the Mobile 1 75w90 non LS at checker. I believe it was the 5th place in my town that I had to check to find it. Every other place had the LS.

Why take the chance?

from what i read on the mobile site there is no difference between the ls and non-ls. the non-ls marked bottles are just older bottles of the same thing. they put ls on all the new bottles now because people were getting confused as to whether or not the fluid was limited slip safe. i don't think the product has changed at all.

Locally, all I have been able to find in M1 is the LS. I bought a quart but haven't put it in yet. At these same stores, I see Valvoline 75W90 that is not LS. Would that be a good choice and possibly better than the M1 LS? Thanks-Ken

I also bought some of this M1 75W90 LS fluid for a different car (I used Honda fluid on the S). The non-LS is no longer available in my area. Have you noticed the dark-colored residue that has settled at the bottom of the containers? This cannot be the LS additives because I have an old quart of the non-LS and it also has this residue.

I don't remember seeing any residue on the Honda fluid. For those using other fluids, any similar observations?

So basically we have a members saying, its fine and others saying its not a good idea. Anyone put the LS stuff into the diffs w/o issues?

LS additive will make no difference... you can use the lube.
