There's a second reason why I've been hesitant to buy Amsoil products: the local Advance Auto Parts store where I've bought oil for years has a container I can pour my used oil every time I bought oil.

I know that preferredlubricants. com is an independent Amsoil multi-level marketing distributor, not the company, but things like this have deterred me from trying the product for years. In spite of their hype, I'm actually using ATM, their 75W-90 GL5 in the diff, and their recommended transmission oil presently.

I was looking to buy the Amsoil 10w30 for my CR and the dealer keeps telling me that Amsoil recommends European 5w-40 and not to use the 10w30 in the CR. Does he know what he is talking about ?
I only have 12,000 miles on the CR but why are they high on the 5w-40 ? I live in SC so the cold should not be an issue.
Slipstream what are your thoughts ?

I wouldn't use 5w-40, but Amsoil 5w-30 or 10w-30 is fine...10w-30 is what Honda recommends for the S, but they also recommend 5w-30 for the new Civic Si, so it's more or less a "grandfather clause" from 1999 imo, I don't see how this engine is significantly different from the Si's

This thread was very informative, if not hostile at times. I will be going either with Amsoil ATM or Mobil 1 EP at the 10,000 mile oil change in my S. I will be switching to synthetic mostly for peace of mind.
There's only one point I can't get passed which seems to diminish all other standardized tests. I've been using conventional (Castrol GTX) oil in my 96 Integra for the last 12 years and 140,000 miles. I've never had a problem with the engine nor did it burn any oil. And now that I'm going to lay her down to rest, I ask my self, "Self, what would I have gained if I had used synthetic oil for the passed 140,000 miles?"
