Default Missing my sixth gear

I was driving home and tried to shift into sixth gear but I just cannot do it. All the other gears appear to be fine but sixth gear won't budge. Has anyone had or hearsd of this problem? Please help, I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to transmissions.

After a missed shift into third hitting fifth mine was damaged enough keep me from getting to sixth. I eventually forced it and then worked the shifter hard to resume movement. Changed the fluid and function is now pretty normal.

A bit of reading on that here:

It seems that the syncros for higher-up gears are noticeably weaker. Skip shifting puts more of a strain on them and apparently can lead to problems...
