Default Missing entire air pump assembly..why?

About 3 months ago, my CEL came on. I took it to Honda to see what the problem was. They said my car was giving off a P0410 code, which deals with the air pump system. I left honda (their price was KKKRRRAAAZZZYY!!!) and I went to a friend that is a mechanic at a local shop. I bought a replacement air pump (assembly really) but when I got there, my mechanic notified me that me entire air pump system was gone! All the hoses, EVERYTHING! Also, I am trying to have my car pass smog and that is the reason why I am trying to fix it.

Can anyone tell why someone would remove the air pump/assembly? Last year, I smogged my car and it was fine.
I did read about the AIR PUMP DELETE but know nothing about it.
can anyone help? Here are some pictures

Yeah looks like some kind of simulator was plugged in to prevent the CEL. Most people that remove the whole airpump assembly have an EMS, and that way they don't have a CEL even without the pump. So the car was most likely boosted or something. Then again if they used a simulator instead of using an EMS they most likely did it for weight reduction.

Yeah, i bought the entire system from a member that had replaced the air pump with EMS. How do i go about fixing this? would i get another simulator? or just re-install the airpump assembly?

If you already have the pump, relay, hoses, ect.. to install everything I would put it back in. There is a simulator that finally works with our s2k's (which is probably whats on your S) but I would just put the pump back in unless it's a track car or something.

Yep, if you remove the airpump you will throw a CEL. The simulator is plugged in there to trick the ECU into thinking it's still there, thus not tripping the CEL.

What are the motivations of removing a stock air pump? Mod reasons? Is true that the might get in the way of turbo setups?
