Missing bad at higher RPMs
My S needs some service, missing badly, just wondered what to expect. I would guess it needs plugs, but on another fuel injected car I had, when it acted the same the injectors needed to be cleaned or replaced. Is that a common problem with the S? (any FI auto)
BTW I have about 45K miles. Other thoughts? Thanks.

Yes bone stock.
What is MAP whack?
Did you clean the injectors yourself, or have it done? Any special tools needed? How long did it take?
Thanks.

does it miss only above 6k rpm? if it does, then u need to do the MAP whack. you'll see the map sensor right there by the throttle body. Use the back of a screw driver and gentle "whack" it. It should fix the problem. If it does in fact fix the problem, put a zip tie around it. There is a TSB for that particular problem. I had the same problem before, only above 6k rpm, did the map whack and fixed it. You should do a search on s2ki.

check your oil. ap1's are known to burn a lot of oil, 1 quart/1,000miles in some cases. my vtec was breaking up in high rpm because i was low on oil. if thats the case consider buying "krank vents" to correct the oil burning.

^ Yep. The problem is with the connectors, not some internal sensor problem, so I think the best solution is to simply unplug the sensor and plug it back in securely.
To the OP, I think there's some info in the UTH FAQ about this, as well as info on a TSB. If you have a good relationship with your local service advisor, you might be able to get them to replace the MAP sensor with the upgraded part. Or you could 'rig' the device with a zip-tie (which is effectively all the new part is). I think that's documented in the FAQ thread, too.

No CEL has lit. Don't know where to look for codes, but would there be codes if the CEL never lit?
Thanks for your ideas. I will try the connections today, and if I have to take it in, at least I have a bit of knowledge, rather than total ignorance.
(Also oil is not the problem, Chris2k03. I have had this S since the first weekend they were introduced in the US, so I am aware of oil consumption and VTEC/oil relationship. Thanks)
