dealers get paid. It the regional techs that honda sends out (similar to insurance appraisers) that may not warranty the work. However, in order not to look bad the dealer may say it wont be covered right away knowing the tech would say the same thing.

It's cool.

I don't get where everyone acts like it's hard to shift this car into the wrong gear.

It's not technique, it's the feel. The S2000 in my experience will happily slide into about any gear at any time without much force at all. You really have to pay attention to notice the slight difference in feel between selecting 2nd gear at 70 MPH, and selecting 4th gear at 70 MPH. Both are easy, one is just a little easier.

That is compared to other cars where, selecting 2nd at 70 MPH would be "hard" vs. 4th would be "easy." There is an obvious difference.

In other words, in the S2000, too low a gear doesn't feel difficult at all, actually even LESS difficult than compared to downshifting into the RIGHT gear on other cars.

Until you have downshifted enough times to really know what it's supposed to feel like, it's an easy mistake to make. And even after that.

yeah ive been able to slip into first gear at like 20mph. but its not like im downshifting into 1st. it goes in when i engage the clutch. but yeah its always easy to get into any gear but knowing what gear youre in is what the issue is. i obviously THOUGHT i was in 3rd but really in first. well see what happens down the road.

That is why a light touch and a reasonable shift speed are best. There is really nothing to be gained especially on a stock AP2 by speed shifting or slamming it into gear. All that gets you is worn synchros, slipping clutch, and the occasional mis-shift.

i just got my compression/leak down test and they said everything is fine. all cylinders are at 220 psi. and everything is in good shape. they said the ecu didnt throw any codes or anything out of the ordinary. so i guess i have peace of mind that the car is fine. but im still listening for anything out of the place. i guess no more race driving for me.
roflitzjinno,
How much did the dealer charge for the retainer check and compression test?
