I learned the same lesson...that is don't let your younger siblings drive your car...it took me a couple of times though. Nobody will drive the S unless I'm in the passenger seat and I'll backhand them if they start acting a fool.
Just my opinion but I think the best way to go is first, a used engine swap or second, the new block from hartopguy. If you have a complete engine labor cost should be small as its more labor intensive to strip down an engine and build it back up than just replacing it. Parts and labor may end up costing the price of the new or used engine in the end that is if your engine can be repaired.
Best price I've seen on a used complete engine was $3500, I'm sure you could cut that considerable if you are just looking for a block... add labor $1000...maybe you could get through this for $4k.

I did the same thing about a year ago. I redlined 3rd gear and then mis shifted to 2nd instead of going into 4th gear. I had a couple of bent valves and cracked retainers. I took my motor to Alaniz here in so. california and he did a great job of repairing it.

Best case....you cracked some retainers, bent a few valves. Some light blemishes on the pistons, can be sanded smooth. A head job, and your good to go.
Worst case....the above, plus a head of a valve broke off, and got tossed around in the cylinder, destroying the lower end.
In my experience (done 3 head jobs, same scenario as yours) a head job was all that was needed.

i don't mean to hijack your thread (sorry for your loss), but i over reved about a month ago. nothing as severe as Andre's case... but i was going about 65-70 and accidentally downshifted into 2nd. i quickly punched the clutch in and the car drives fine. long story short, could there be damage that i'm not aware of? thanks.
