Miss-Shift from 3->2 instead of 4 (car wont start)
Ok...so my brother miss-shifts from 3rd to 2nd instead of 4th and he told me he stepped on the cluth really fast, but I dont think it was in time. I had to go pick him up and flatbed the car....it wont start at all...sounds like someone threw a wrench in it. Any ideas?? How much will this set me back? Bro drives it 1 time...and the cars gone..ahh

it's gonna cost you a lot to fix. be prepared for several thousand. you might have thrown a rod, as well as done some valve train damage. piston to valve contact, etc. a mechanical overrev as you've described is a terrible way to destroy an engine. you could be looking at almost an entire new engine. valves, pistons, maybe a rod, new block, etc.
hope your brother has got some money ready for you!

If you take it to a dealer the price will be somewhere around $8-9K. A good friend of mine is a dealership mechanic who just replaced an AP1 engine for this exact problem 3 weeks ago. Says the engine was misshifted into 3rd at around 105 mph . The valve in cylinder #4 broke, and the valve was embedded into the piston, the stem was bent in half found in the intake manifold. Both the head and block were replaced.
The parts alone were around $7,500, add labor on top of that (said he charged 25 hours to complete the engine swap). Ouch.
