Misfiring - Rough Idle - Codes for all Cylinders
#221
My friend had an '04 audi A4 turbo, and he once put 87 gas in there...
He had those 6 CEL codes pop up. random misfire, etc. It was idling bad, too.
So we ended up putting good 93 in there, and some octane booster.

So much for knee-jerk reactions... I inspected my engine. Turns out I had a plug, #3 almost all the way out.. the Sparkplug sleeve was full of gas and oil.. I saw #2 was also loose, but not as bad... the others were ok. I removed, cleaned and reinstalled everything. Even cleaned the MAP, which was only 6 months old, cleared the engine codes, did a compression test (all was well), poured in some injector cleaner and bam! (sorry Emeril) All done! Good as new... or kinda new. I did cancel the injector order, but I think I might replace anyway just because I am coming up on 100k.
I think the oil was due to me not having a catch can. I go through oil like the GOP.
Also, someone earlier posted a comment about loose plugs, wanted to say thanks.

i have a cel on my 2005. i have no rough idle issues (it idles normal at around 900/1k rpm), however, everytime when i reset the ecu, the cel always comes back and it only comes on during idle. the car drives fine with the cel on.
a couple of times, the cel went off on its own AFTER i filled up. however, recently, i have been putting 91 into the tank instead of 93 and the problem started to be very persistent and now the cel just stays there.
my car has 41,xxx miles and is using the denso pk22pr-l11s spark plugs. i have done the based checks such as: checking plug gaps, making sure the gas cap is only on tight with at least 3 clicks so my next steps would be:
1. change the plugs (should i use nkg or denso?)
if that doesnt work then
2. do a leakdown test
if checks out to be fine then
3. change the injectors.
does anyone have any other suggestions? thanks

What is the CEL code? If you don't know then get the CEL code read so you can know what you are trying to fix. Go to a chain auto parts store and have them read it.

Those were the codes I was getting and replacing the injectors worked for me. I only got the codes a few times but if I listened to the exhaust closely I could here a random put....putput....put....putputput.
