Hi Random1, I've been reading your posts with interest as my S2000 yr.=2000 has developed the same problem. I was wondering if you knew the part number for the OEM injector. The two part numbers you've furnished are for the "sealing washer 90428-PD6-003" and a "muffler gasket 16705-PD1-003". Ive been to the Majestic site and they no longer list any injector parts. My ride's currently in the shop, so hopefully we can tackle the issue quickly.

Glad you're still problem free!
The Honda part number for one fuel injector is 06164-PCX-010.

Majestic has fuel injectors. Follow link below. See the first line in the parts listing. Majestic uses SKU numbers not Honda part numbers in there browser pages.

Majestic Honda 2000 S2000 Intake Manifold

Good Luck.

Finally took my car to the dealer, and they concluded that my CEL is due to a faulty injector.

Am now waiting to see how HondaCare covers this.

Oh, this all sounds SO familiar!!!

Hi all, was pointed in the direction of this thread, and Random's symptoms and journey sound rather similar to my own, although my CEL is a lot more intermittent:-

Initially it was P0301 / P1399, and I noticed it idling 'rough' - burbling, hunting for a stable idle, very occasionally dropping almost to stall. No backfires.
Then it was P0301 and P0304 together with P0300 and P1399
Then it was P0301, P0303, and P0304 together with P0300 and P1399, now twice.
...all over probably 500 miles of driving. Rough idle has never gone away.

So far, I've done the following:-
- changed plugs - originals looked just fine, maybe a little lean;
- used some Forte gas treatment (combined valve/filter/injector cleaner) - no effect;
- done a compression test - all very consistent, all near the top of the range;
- had valve clearances done by a Honda dealer (who wanted to crack the head next, FFS!!!);
- had valve clearances RE-DONE by an independent after the Honda dealer left them so wide open you could have driven a bus through them!!! (3-4thou over tolerance!);
- had a leak-down test performed - all consistent and high at 91-95%;
- (apparently) diagnostic info from the independent's machine is all coming back fine...but what that means and what they checked for I don't know...

Dealers / independents are telling me the car is fine...and it's clearly not. Had got to the point of thinking of swapping good parts in for the hell of it, to see what happens (despite a Hondacare warranty, which won't pay out unless the work done actually FIXES the problem!!! Handy eh?!? And then only if a main dealer does the work!!!)...
...when a friend sent me this link.

So...injectors is likely immediate culprit (possibly a vacuum leak on the induction side, reading a few of the posts), but WTF the original cause is I don't know!
Not overly mechanically able, and don't have an OBD-II reader, let alone a diagnostic one, so some simple advice would be appreciated.

Cheers guys,

Martin.

ya I was throwing misfires in all cylinders and a compression leak, just from a cracked spark plug. Honda changed them out, problem fixed. But thats just me. I know other things can cause misfires too. I got lucky.

Injector #2 was replaced under HondaCare. No CEL for 5000 miles! :-)

I believe the purge the fuel tank is the correct answer to this problem. The new injectors are needed to get over the fact that they are gunked up from the tank sediment.

From this thread...

You get this answer...

When I bought my S2000, I got a CEL that claimed to be the random engine misfire, cyl 1, cyl 2, and cyl 4 misfire, and it only ran rough at idle. The first time the dealer got their hands on it, it was the coil packs. So warranty (great thing) paid for 4 new coil packs. Next time, they couldn't figure it out (it had already gotten new spark plugs from before).

Come to find out, the guy I bought it from put low grade fuel in and a fuel additive. I had to pay to get my gas tank purged and cleaned (5 years of fuel sediments gone ) and warranty covered another set of spark plugs, 4 injectors and all new fuel filters.

Since then, not a single CEL and it drives smoother than new!

EDIT: vehicle described is an MY02 with 33k miles
