You can still lose compression via the plug, it just won't show up in a compression check. Think about it this way. If you take the plug all the way out, then compression is lost. When you test it, it tests fine, but when you stop testing it goes away again. You know the compression is gone because you determine it in some other way. For example, with the plug out you'll hear the compression loss. I expect the same will be true if the plug is cracked in a way that produces a compression leak. You'd hear it, rather than finding it with a compression test.
I can understand that. I was just picking on the fact that a supposed compression "Test" showed low compression.

I heard loud ticking under the engine too, so maybe thats what u mean too right?
Could be. I don't really know. When a sparkplug blows completely out of the hole the noise will make you think you've trashed the engine (and with the S2000 you may have), but I'm not sure what a cracked plug might sound like. You might also have been hearing a high voltage arc from one of the coil packs.

Yea, that would take a more invasive type of compression test for sure. I just figured somebody told somebody else that the compression was low and that they compression test part was just an assumption.

I'm the original poster of this thread. My status is that I still have a rough idle, lean misfires caused by the injectors. My CEL will come on occasionally and then go away after a number of on/off cycles. Lately the missing is getting worse/more annoying and I'm planning to buy a brand new set of injectors.
...
Okay, new injectors were installed tonight and it purrs like a kitten (idles perfectly). The idle was getting so rough it was embarrassing! It was even starting to misfire at higher RPM (3-4k) when cruising on the highway with no load (barely enough throttle to keep the car moving at speed).

Hopefully this will not become a regular maintenance activity and last long enough (50k miles) for me to feel I'm getting my money's ($400) worth out of this! Parts bought from Majestic Honda online. Each injector was $96.84 including seals for each. If you replace injectors don't forget to purchase the two metal washer gaskets for the fuel line. The Honda part numbers are 16705-PD1-003 and 90428-PD6-003. They cost $3.56.

I'll post if anything changes.

So, just to add to this growing thread...

I have had engine misfire codes twice in the last 3 months. The first time it went away for about 3 weeks after performing a MAP Whack and resetting the ECU. Then misfire codes for 1,2 and 4 and a random misfire code.

Then I have been noticing a ticking (not timing or low oil ticking) going on in the engine. I thought it could be 1) the common TCT problem and would require a new one; or 2) a cracked spark plug that was causing the misfires and now creating an internal ticking sound.

Well, tonight I replaced all spark plugs with NGK Platinums (and I'm not sure this was done by the original owner in the first place after the recall) and the ticking remains. I reset the ECU again so we will have to see if it comes back on as soon as I start to drive it again.

The other symptoms are oil pressure indicator comes on for about 2 seconds when I start the car and the ticking increases along with the RPMs and seems to go away around 3K RPM, unless I simply can't hear it from in the driver's seat at that point. Lastly, I have the exhaust "puffing" going on.

I believe it may be a TCT problem occurring at the same time as this whole misfire code issue, which.... sucks.

But, just wanted to see if anyone else was having the ticking symptoms going on along with the misfires and they know its not spark plugs cracked...

Thanks.

I drove my car with misfire symptoms (putting out the exhaust) at idle for months without throwing a code.

Update: I've got over 55k on my S now, and still no recurrance of the CEL or misfiring.

Hi Random1, I've been reading your posts with interest as my S2000 yr.=2000 has developed the same problem. I was wondering if you knew the part number for the OEM injector. The two part numbers you've furnished are for the "sealing washer 90428-PD6-003" and a "muffler gasket 16705-PD1-003". Ive been to the Majestic site and they no longer list any injector parts. My ride's currently in the shop, so hopefully we can tackle the issue quickly.

Glad you're still problem free!
