So i went through the whole misfire saga. I bought my car in 2007. its an 01 and currently has 37k on the odo. The dealer first saw the misfire and recalled my spark plugs. That was good for about 10 minutes till i got home. It misfired again and i just drove for a while like that. SO then i sucked it up Winter 2008 and took it to my mechanic and he found that all my valve spring retainers were cracked as a result of my injectors going bad. So all of that was fixed and my car ran awesome. Well the weather warmed up again now in 2009 and its misfiring in cylinder number three. I cleared the code, zeroed out my AFC for good thinking that would help and it worked well for about a week. Now it will randomly misfire and pop out of the exhaust only at idle. I thought it might be a coil but the mechanic said since it misfires at idle only it might be valves again!!! It is in cylinder number three and I am at a loss. I can not believe that a honda has this many valve problems, in addition to the pitting rear axles, defective roof strikers, defective drivers window regulator, defective clutch springs, and all the other dumb little things. Sooo strange. Any help would be appreciated.

Did your mechanic really say the retainers were cracked because the injectors were going bad? Really? If so, never ever ever ever never go back to that dumbass again. Post up in your local s2ki forum for a decent shop recommendation.
First...who tuned your VAFC? Was it done on a dyno with an AFR sensor?
Next...take a look in the DIY FAQ and look for the Misfire Troubleshooting thread.
BTW...the s2k may be a Honda, but it's still a sports car. I've owned a ton of sports cars in my time...not sporty cars, but sports cars. This car's known issues are peanuts. You want to see real issues...head over to PlanetPorsche.net. Search on RMS or just cruise through their Under the Hood section for all the problems they have.
