Misfire/flashing CEL
#21
First off...how long did u drive ur car with ur CEL blinking? If u drove it too much there is a possiability that u might have damaged ur cat. Second like billman said stop grounding ur coil! Its a switching ground and those mili seconds its turned off is its cool down time, u will overheat it and burn it out. The way ur describing ur problem, to me, it sounds like the the ground for the coil in the ECU burned out. Try swapping the ECU. If it starts then pretty sure that is ur problem. Good Luck and keep us posted!

Best of luck with your diagnosis. Sounds like your on the right track. Who built the motor? Who removed the motor?
Have you confirmed that cyl is OK by doing a leakdown test?

Cylinder compression is 200 across the board on the dot, so I am relieved there. I stated earlier I drove like this for a mile or less under 3000 rpm. While debauchering the ground wires I never once tried starting and running the car in these conditions. Simply turning key on and getting voltages. I don't think I have harmed anything else that wasn't crapped out when this initially happened. Going to check continuity of white wire shortly and I also have a good friend of mine that has an 02 ap1 ecu he will let me switch out. I'm just not sure if the 02 ECU will work with my 01, or if their is any other way to diagnose my computer bad, as I'm leaning toward that's what my problem is. Thanks guys.

Time out.
Lets get on the same page with wire colors.
I have an ap1 harness in the garage, all four coil plugs have BLACK, BLACK/YELLOW, and WHITE/XXXX.
Your car is an 01?

You are correct with your wiring colors billman Idk if I was seeing things out of frustration/fatigue when I first looked at it but black is ground, black w yellow tracer is power, and white with xxxx tracer would be the coil circuit wire that tells it to work I suppose.

So I suppose you could just plug in the 02 ecu and just check your wire voltages.
So it is indeed the WHITE wire that you see the voltage problem in?

KOEO: (key on engine off)
All your BLACK/YELLOW wires should have battery voltage.
All your BLACK wires should have ground.
All your WHITE wires should show .1v or so.
