Default Mileage Drop with FIPK

I just installed the K&N FIPK on my AP1. It was an easy install with the exception that the instructions have the vacuum hose lengths reversed as to where they go and the bolt heads on the outside of the airbox can only be installed opposite of the diagram if you have normal sized hands.

Performance gain is perceptible as the car now spins the tires going into third and it didn't use to do that.

My question concerns mileage. I used to get 22 mpg, I now get 18 with the same driving habits. Not that I give a rat's butt about mileage in my S2000, but I was just wondering if this is normal and what might account for the mileage drop.

Thanks...

It's not going to effect mileage significantly. If anything I'd think it would slightly increase gas mileage. You may be beating on it more than before, or your mileage sample may have been too small. Run a couple more thanks through it and keep up with the mileage. I bet it gets back around 22.

yes and no, depends how good the seal are made for the short ram, the motor could actually see hotter air, the ecm jumps in and adjust the fuel and timing.

I just installed mine this past weekend too. Clean install, love it.

I love the k&n FIPK too. Man, it sounds soooo sweet! This VTEC engine sounds even better than the stock airbox.

I've noticed in increase in acceleration too, especially in the low to mid, but definitely in VTEC!

Great mod!

i instaled the FIPK on my AP1 and my milage remained about the same. But i tend to beat on it more though. definately check and make sure the seal is being made on the underside of the hood. that will definately make a difference.
