drop a PM to Jacko -- he had this exact problem and hopefully can give you some tips to find the cap.

BobbyB had this exact problem as well. They went in with a mirror and found it...This is about the 7th time I've heard this happening. Just get someone with tiny hands and feel around the top of the tranny

Bringing up an old topic. Yesterday I guess I didn't tighten the oil cap all the way after filling up the oil a quart. The vibration from driving must've loosened it all the way and I'm presuming now it's where everyone say it is, by the tranny and firewall.

Now, my question is, having the old oil cap still there (i replaced the oil cap with a new one) and driving, will it cause horrible vibration in the cabin? If not, what damages could I have done to the engine? Cause when I popped the hood, oil was basically everywhere.

Why would you want to leave it there?

Probably nothing -- it doesn't take much oil to seem like "oil everywhere". But what did the dipstick read?

I'm not leaving it there, just happened yesterday and I can't get it out from where I think it is. Still work in progress.

happened to me recently. had the crazy noise, almost a rattle or buzz at higher speeds. cap was sitting on top of the tranny buzzing away. if your facing the car its right of the valve cover back behing the engine and 8-10 inches down, kind of nesteled in a crook. couldn't see it from below the car. could barley make it out while peering in from the driver side. had to push it around with a coat hanger then get my girlfriend to cram her tiny hand into the hole to fish it out. was not easy to get.
omg that helps so much! i don't know how long i spent looking from below and above the engine and could never find it after this happened to me. so i just figured it dropped out, but i always hear this rattle coming from the engine bay (and i'm the only one who notices it so it drives me crazy!!). i was actually just going to post about this until i saw this thread. i thought maybe just need to replace the drive belt or something...

I fished mine out, took about half an hour witha coat hanger. I leaned over on the driver side fender, looked past the intake manifold and straight down and saw the threading to the oil cap. After I got it out it got rid of the cabin vibration and rattle. for this thread
