Default Metals in UOA

So I just did a UOA at 4k miles, and am seeing slightly high boron, molybdenum, and magnesium levels. Any Idea what this could be?

I have a full exhaust with HFC, but that's it.

Those are all anti-wear additives in the virgin oil, not wear metals from the engine, it's all good so no worries. I am very surprised they highlighted those items in your report as they surely know that they are anti-wear additives.

Jason,
As JFUSION said, the metals that are flagged are anti-wear added into the oil to enhance protection (anti-wear and/or detergents). Very odd that they would do that ... and I'm not wild about the write-up. I think they should have given more useful info written for someone that hasn't scrutined UOAs for over a decade. I had to read it, look at the data then re-read their comments to 'get' what they were trying to say.

The metals car owners have to be concerned with are iron, aluminum, lead and copper/tin (brass/bronze).

This is a very clean report and I KNOW the car was driven hard this summer.

Reading the report comments AGAIN, I think they are saying that they didn't expect to see those compounds in Amsoil. I've been away from UOAs for a while but it looks like the previous owner was a big Red Line Oil fan. Amsoil mostly uses higher levels of ZDDP ... shows up as elevated zinc and Phosphorus.

Residual adds from a previous oil are not a problem. The relatively low wear looks good.

It's difficult for me to evaluate this oil condition after only 4k miles and 2 qts added. But the wear metals look ok. I assume they don't go anywhere with high blowby. Thanks for posting.

Amsoil is now using a combination of Moly and Boron and other compounds in their Signature Series of oils, which they didn't traditionally use in the past. But yeah the Moly count seems a bit higher than the average Amsoil amount, so possibly left over from the previous OCI.

Thanks guys, I know the previous oil was Mobil 1 from Jake when I bought the car. As for what it had before that I don't know. I'm not a big fan of the comments either, after reading a few peoples Blackstone reports. I might use them next time if I do another analysis.

I just posted my latest UOA on BITOG. Pennzoil Ultra 10W30 with about 5,000 miles on it.
