Default Metallic "grinding" sound at engine start

Just changed the oil 1,000 miles ago. I always check the oil. Usually happens when the engine is cold, but I get a real bad grinding/metallic sound at ignition. Almost like there is no oil. Any feedback on this would be great!

I have this same problem and ive pretty much surmised its either the tensioner or the starter. i plan on replacing my tensioner soon so we'll see.

It is the starter. My guess is that is hangs out after the car starts and there is a bit of a grind. I swapped mine with another used one I had onhand, probelm solved for a short time.

is it necessary to replace the starter if it's doing this right away?

what are the consequences?
