When an engine is low on oil it can make some wierd sounds. Myh when was the last time you changed your oil? and qbmurderer when turning oil can be starved from the engine if the level is low, The oil will lean or splash to one side of the pan. This however usually only happens at higher speeds then idle.

I can't believe this is true, I think it's a hoax, there is no way an engine can make noises and you add a quart of oil and by some miracle the noise went away! When the oil is low and it makes noises because of it, the bearings are toast already, no amount of oil afterwards is going to fix the noises.
