Is the diameter A different from diameter B?
What is the black line seperating part A from B?
If part B has a smaller diameter and it doesn't look it was causd by wear then I think its is not a wrist pin.
If it IS wear.. then it could be a mangled-up wrist pin but how would the engine have been running at all with one piston not connected to the piston rod?

I see what you mean... I think the photos are misleading, the otter diameter isn't tapered at all, it just has a black ring around it. A isn't a smaller diameter than B.
Here are some more pictures... I really have no idea how it was running at all, I am thinking the rest of the wrist pin is still holding and keeping the piston in place. The knocking I heard might been the piston moving around the remainder of the pin???
I did catch it early - I only drove for a couple of miles at low rpm when I heard the knock start.

Wow did you hydrolock the motor or something? It is very difficult to bend a rod like that otherwise. If you did hydrolock it, you may want to check the other rods for damage. If the bores look clean it shouldnt be too expensive to fix. I have a set of 3 ap1 rods and pins I can sell you for cheap if you want.

Pretty sure it wasn't hydrolocked - I kept a close eye on the levels. I really haven't got the slightest idea how it happand, did the bent rod cause the pin to disintegrate or viceversa?
The engine... at least the bottom end is a write off, the bores are not only scored but gouged slightly from the broken wrist pin... number 4 - typical.
Hey Buaan, yeah I pushed the pistons up from beneath... I've got a plan - picking up a new engine tomorrow, seems like a good deal - bare engine for 800. What do you reakon mate?
James.
