Metal flakes in my used oil after oil change
#12
So now there is a distinct smell while sitting at idling and not moving.
I don't know what that means...
I can't post pics of flakes right now because I am between computers at home. and I don't have an approriate tool for slicing my used oil filter in half either (aside from a hacksaw). But I am getting the general message about bearings. I would love to freshen up with a stroker kit or something but it just aint the time...
I am not planning on having my new school loan the rest of my life so most of what I do now is el cheapo (i don't mean crap parts just not turbos or ultimate tuning packages)

Did you actually see the metallic oil?
Any missfire CEL's?
Oil light?
IMO, a street driven Sk2 should not have worn crankshaft bearings at 141k miles AT ALL!
Not even on dino oil.

I'm not sure how clean your oil drain pan was, but if you had a Used Oil Analysis done on that old oil (even without the visible metal particles) you would know what your problem is.

This is probably the way I will go. I would like to do it myself. I will just try and order the bearings through the Honda dealer unless anyone knows of a better alternative as far as these parts.

Only those copper/bonzish flakes in the oil, no other of the signs for bearings that people have mentioned. The oil itself does not seem to have metalic look either
There is this weird smell tho when idling
I think I'll try that analysis tho, i have never actually had that done before

if your car is running fine, dont worry about it. your just wasting money.
If he changes them out now then he is looking at a minimal investment in $ and a little bit of work. If he waits, the next thing that will happen is he will get engine knock, and now he will know for sure he has a bad bearing. The only problem is that by the time there is a knock everything is most likely stretched and he will need to completely rebuilt or replace the bottom end.
