Metal Chunk in Diff

Are you sure it came out of the diff?
Is it metal?
Hard or soft?
What is that "dent" on top?
It looks like (flattened) part of a pan head screw.
Do you have a Comptech diff?
IIRC the breather cover plate is screwed onto the back cover with 2 little screws.
Might be one of them.
It is possible to see the ring gear through the drain hole.
Make sure the diff is drained completely.
When turning watch out for drops of oil falling from the ring gear (in your eye)
What to do next?
If you are absolutely sure it came out of the diff = stop driving.
Do you still have warranty? = take it back (on a flatbed).
I would drop the diff and open it up.
That way you can wash it out with diesel oil (or kerosine or any "oily solvent" ) inspect it (bearings by feeling & listening and ring & pinion by looking) without messing up the backlash etc. so if the bearings and gears are ok you can just put it back together.

It was attached (under oily slime) to the drain bolt. I am 95% certain it came out of there, but I suppose there is an outside chance it was picked up from my relatively clean garage floor. Also, there were 2 flecks of metal, smaller than a pin head attached to the bolt (magnetic).
I, foolishly, filled the diff back up, so I can't look in there :/ I didn't really think (before you said so) that it would be possible to see anything in there.
It is definitely metal.
It is pretty hard, it's difficult to test how hard because of the small size, but I put it in some channel lock pliers and squeezed pretty hard and it made a very slight mark.
The side opposite the photo is flat and smooth.
The side of the photo has a shallow groove at the top of the photo in a line.
The side of the photo has a valley in it at the bottom. The valley terminates in the center of the piece in a line parallel to the groove at the top.
The shape is parabolic, not quite a semi-circle.
There is a stress fracture along the bottom side of the picture.
It doesn't look at all like a part of a screw head to me.
It's 100% stock everything on the car (no comptech diff)
I'm only a couple thousand miles out of warranty and bought the Honda Care too... so if I can get someone else to look at it, I will do that, I already waste enough time maintaining my other, race car :/
I'll look in to the breather plate screw theory, and if honda says no to investigating, I will do it myself.... the breather screws are inside of the case, aren't they?

Anyone have a picture of a 'Side Washer' or a 'Center Washer' from the lsd unit?
The edges of those things are the only things I've seen in my looking through the service manual that might have the same shape as this piece of metal.
