You could have simply put it in 1st and let her idle while you got out of the car and looked to see what was spinning.
I broke the drive side axle and did this test and saw that the driver side inner cv joint was spinning but the axle was not.
My money says it's your axle.
Report back please.

What probably did it in wasn't the clutch but stickier tires/improper launch. You want the tires to break loose when you do that, less strain. The tires probably grabbed instead of spun, and the diff broke or an axle did. (yes I know he dropped at 7k). When you launch at 7k, you want your tires to spin a bit, less strain.
My bet is on the diff. Contrary (sp?) to popular belief, the tranny and drive shaft is pretty tough, its the axles and diff that is usually the culprit.
I don't do clutch dumps... ever. But is all this comentary really necessary? Its not like he came in and said "My diff broke and all I did was a little clutch dump, this car sucks!". He broke it, and wanted to know what was likely the problem so he can fix it.
Translation, he broke it, he knows it, he just wants to fix it.

Is 2 months allready considered "old"?
Anyway..
It would be nice for us at s2ki to know where that driveshaft broke.
(why "we" allready figured out... )
The S2000's specifications suggest it is a tough car.
Top speed of 240 km/h, 0-100 km/h in (about) 6 seconds.
Compare the weight with a MX-5 (about the same outside dimentions) and it is almost 200 kg heavier.
That extra weight isn't soft top motors alone
IMO a lot of (if not all) components are made to withstand the speed & acceletarion, and not just once a weekend

I broke the right axle (aka driveshaft) at a drag 1.5 years ago.
