Default Mechanical Over-rev

Here's what happened. Doing some spirited driving on the expressway last night, I was nearing redline in 3rd and popped it into 2nd as soon as I let off the clutch, the car lunged forward, I pressed the clutch as fast as I could, took it out of second and coasted off the expressway.

The car seemed to drive fine after, no smoking or bogging etc. only the smell of burnt clutch. Everything seems fine today, except at idle I am noticing a slight hesitation. Again the car drives fine under load (so far), its just the idle that is bothering me.

My car is a 2003, so would replacing the intake retainers and keepers w/ MY04 ones fix my problem?

Thanks

Edit: CEL is now on..

Also, I work at an Infiniti dealer and a couple of techs are confident that I have a bent valve.

But wouldn't the symptoms of a bent valve be a lot more apparent??

well you might not notice anything right away. Many times symptoms of bent valves occur after a period of time after the mechanical over rev occured. Take the valve cover off and inspect for cracked retainers. Perform dry leak down test and see what the results give. Compression test is also advised just for piece of mind that you have the same numbers across the board. GL

Nah I think he meant how long did you put the clutch out for? did you depress halfway or just completely take your foot off the pedal?

I would go with the leakdown and have an inspection of the retainers just to be safe...

A lot of people after a mech over-rev don't drop a valve until X thousand miles later...

I know of a guy who did the exact mistake you did. After just two days of wondering if there was damage done, and wondering how long till it shows...how much is it going to cost etc etc, he went and traded his S2k in at a dealership. Got an auto G35 haha

damn most of us are not that swayed.

What I meant was your hand technique on the shifter...

It happened so fast, that I dont even know if I let off the clutch all the way. All I know is that as soon as the car lunged forward I pressed the clutch and took it out of gear.

I plan on changing the retainers and keepers soon. Do you think in doing that I will prevent a valve from dropping in the future?
