Default Mechanic put 10w30 into transmission

Hello everyone

So today I took my 2000 s2000 into a mechanic that my friend recommended for regular maintance (transmission fluid, differential fluid, brake fluid, clutch fluid, coolant flush and spark plugs). I did mention to him to use the Honda MTF fluid but upon picking up my car i asked him about it and he said he used 10w30 motor oil into the transmission and said that was fine. I told him to double check and he checked his computer and came back and said that he will drain it and add the honda MTF tomorrow. I did drive home a few miles away and going bring it back tomorrow. Is there any damage this could of cause?

It will be all right. Honda does recommend 10/30w as a temporary fluid until you can replace it with MTF.

TEMPORARILY it is ok to put 10w30 in...says so in the service manual.

Now do the job right, get that ENGINE oil out of your TRANSMISSION, and put in the Honda MTF. Your mechanic friend is cutting corners where he doesn't need to be and being ridiculous. The cost Honda MTF is about the same as synthetic 10w30.

good luck.

awesome great thanks. I was really worried about that but did some searches and looks like some hondas do use 10w30 for their transmissions.

It's not a big deal as long as it's fixed, but you should start looking for a new mechanic.

I think that may be a little harsh. The best choice was probably unavailabe so in the meantime 10/30 it is.

Your trans will be fine, but it only takes like 5min to drain/change the fluid. If he was going to do it tomorrow why didn't he just do it when you went to pick up the car?
