Hi,
several weeks ago i installed a comptech cai on my s2000.
After some testdrives on the famous German "Autobahn" i noticed, that my topspeed was reduced from 247 Km/H to approx. 230-235 Km/H. Also the 6th gear seems not so "strong" as before the install of the cai.
Sometimes i had problems with vtec-engaging, maybe the map-sensor did not get enough air?
After checking, i noticed that the air-filter was fuel of oil, even the surface of the box was wet from the oil. I cleaned it, and reoiled it, with much less oil as before.
Time for another "Autobahn" test-drive. This time i come easily to 230, but the high traffic stopped me to go faster. Also i did not want to risk any accident. No v-tec malfunction either.
Also i noticed that my racing exhaust from TSS-Tuning shows some leaky spots (now it gets hard to describe it in english --- searches translation) bolted together parts (with screws and seals). You can see some soot there.
Now finally comes my questions:
Can the topspeed decrease has something to do with the cai or better said is it normal that an aftermarket cai decreases the top-speed?
Does it help resetting the ECU now?
Can the "leaky" exhaust cause the problem?
Questions over questions, but i hope someone could help me out there

First: Installing a CAI should not lower your top speed. All its doing is feeding the engine with more air. But as you stated yourself you put to much oil on the filter. This will affect the engine preformance.
The filters only need a little oil. No need to soak it.
Second: As for the exhaust leak if your seeing "soot" you may just need to install a new gasket. It may have been torn during the install. Best thing to do is to take it apart and have a look. But make sure you have a new gasket to install anyway seeing as though you'll have it a part.
"I" don't think that small of a leak would affect your top speed but I could be wrong.
Anyone else care to comment?
As for resetting the ECU. I would if I were you just to give the ECU a new start with the intake without it being oil soaked.
Disconnect the battery(negtive side) for 30 sec. That will reset it for ya.
Hope this helps

You can mess up your sensors in the intake manifold by coating them with oil mist. A lot of Ford mass airflow sensors were affected this way from people soaking their K&N filters. This is not a two stroke and it doesn't need oil injection. Easy does it!

The reason that ford airflow sensors get screwed up is that they're a hotwire sensor. Teeeny little hot wire. They run current across it and judge airflow from it's temperature. Honda doesn't use an airflow sensor. It uses speed density calculations. There should be no damage from getting a bit of oil in there...
Yes, reset the ecu and maybe drive the car for a couple of days to let it adjust it's fuel trim before trying another top speed run.
