Default Master Clutch Cylinder leak. Rebuid or Replace?

Just felt my clutch was sticky at the bottem. Checked and saw a black streak coming from the master cylinder. My friend told me about cheap repair kits, but advised that they dont' last long.

I tried searching the posts and the faqs for tips and suggestions but couldnt' find any except a few where ppl have noticed the same problem, but didnt' say anythign about rebuilding it with a kit. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

I have the service manual CD-ROM and there are directions for replacing the whole thing. Should i replace it or just rebuild it? I have no idea what is in a rebuild kit but i assume it'll come with instructions or i just replace a bad part with a good part.

Also, I opened up the clutch fluid reservior for a look-see. It doesnt' mean that i have to bleed out the clutch line right? only have to bleed if i remove those reservior tanks correct?

And after reading alot of those faqs, i must admit, Xviper: It almost makes me want to visit Calgary again after moving away! To think just took my car in for a type-4 service at A&J. I could've bled the clutch and brakes myself! I'm going to do a rotor swap anyways b/c i'm at the service limit! I'll be following instructions from the CD-ROM. Hopefully, I'll document everythign and do a good post to contribute what i can to teh FAQ

Probably looking at bad gaskets unless you can find a crack on the cylinder body. If there are no cracks on the bbody rebuild it. Otherwise replace it. If you do the job right a rebuilt cylinder will last just as long as a brand new one.

Oh and you dont need to bleed the system after opening the reservouir if thats what you mean. But, if you take the cylinder off you definately will have to.

For piece of mind, replace it. Rule of thumb (at least for me): If you plan to do the work yourself on this component, then replace it. If you plan to rebuild it, let a pro do it or buy one that is rebuilt already. Although due to the "newness" of this car, chances are you won't find a rebuilt one ready to go.
