Master Clutch Cyl Toast
Anybody have a clutch master cylinder go at 17K miles? Dealer said "it happens ..." Just curious. Never had this prob on the Lude or numerous hydraulic clutch Civics. ???

My fluid was really black when we changed it. It only had 21 000kms on it. A few months earlier the rash of 2nd gear grinds appeared. Do you think it is related to the master cycl?
Also, how much does the master cycl. cost?

I had black crap in the clutch fluid @ 42k.
Turned out to be the slave cylinder, which was replaced under warranty. I hadn't noticed the drop-off in the gearchange, but it's much better again with the new slave cylinder. Similar symptoms to what you've got FormerH22A4, so it could be the slave rather than the master.
