Default MAP sensor or Crankshaft position sensor

Hey guys,

Here the Update, so i had no option so i towed it to the shop and the mechanics do wht they good at, cutting ur arms and legs. the Shop guys replaced my crankshaft sensor ($220 labor and part), and still the car not work, then they said the CAM sensor($90 part) was bad, so replace it. then he said, the timing chain mark has jumped and re positioned that ($350 labor). Over all took $700 to fix. and when i accerlrate to 4-6000 rpm, the car sounds a little different. kinda cool, but not sure why the change in sound. i feel like the mechanic ripped me off as they couldn't trouble shoot the main problem and went by fixing until they found the issue and got it running.

I Need help.

I was driving on the highway, when all of a sudden my s2000 engine shut of on me and came to a stop. Battery is good cuz all lights were on and working. i try to start again few times and did not turn on. IT makes that start noise as there is electricity going through but no kick on for the start. I got it towed to the mechanic, and he looked up the code and got it saying Crankshaft position sensor issue. (does this cost $150) but a friend of mine was looking up the issue on the forums here and said it could be just the MAP sensor (MAP cleaning needed) and carbon buildup? so what should i do, the mechanic said it will take like a week to fix cuz the part has to be ordered. do i really need a Crankshaft position sensor or do u guys think it could be just the carbon build up on MAP sensor and clean that first...and how u clean that.

also contact me directly if you can 5713096445 i live in Virginia, Herndon.

Thanks s2ki Team

Check the pin for the crankshaft position sensor, I had one de-pin on me, re-pinned it and everything was fine. Check also if the sensor is getting voltage. If there was a code then likely that is the issue. Please post the code you received and I can tell you the path to troubleshoot for it.

The engine should still run with a faulty crank sensor. Just not correctly. If it just died while driving I'd be more inclined its a mechanical issue as opposed to electrical.

I had an issue with my crank sensor wiring - the car WILL shut off when running if there's a problem with it.

If the CEL said there's a problem with your crank sensor then tell you friend to STFU

negative, it will not. it will shut off if it is running and it loses connection/power

Go unplug you crank sensor and try to start it. It should start. I literally did this by accident the other day. Given it immediately threw a code. I let it idle for probably 10 seconds. Many other cars are the same way as well.

Or maybe I have a special ap1.

Doesn't start.....attempted it when I did my F22c swap(accidentally thought I plugged it in but didn't). It will attempt to crank but never start up

First, what shop did you take it to, second are they familiar with s2000s? What part of the US are you in?
